Getting AP signal strength via C program ...
Hi all,
I would like to get AP signal strength via C program but I am not sure where to start. I am currently using orinoco drivers for Linksys PC wireless card v.3. Is there any way I can get the signal strength that we get via 'iwconfig' ? I would prefer not to load hostap drivers .. but if its the only way or the simpler way to go then I would go ahead and do it. (I dont know how to get it through hostap too ... but I guess some documentation can be found on the hostap website) Please let me know if there is anything important I missed. Thanks in advance. |
Hi
I figured out a way (this is not a clean way, but works :) ) . I am using system call to record the AP signal strength from /proc/net/wireless .... However if there is any other way please let me know. Thanks. |

hi,
Do like this: [root@localhost RT2870STA]# cat /proc/net/wireless Inter-| sta-| Quality | Discarded packets | Missed face | tus | link level noise | nwid crypt frag retry misc | beacon ra0: 0000 10. 0 169 0 0 0 0 0 0 Regards, Ravi |
I tried
It stills gives me : No such file or directory It seems that it needs wireless tools to be installed. Do not you think that? |
by default,it is there in our system. In my Redhat 9 based system,i am having all wireless commands.Which system are you using?
If it not there, then you can download wireless_tools.0.28 tools package,go through the README and INSTALL files, then you will be gettinng those commands. Then load your driver file for that device and then you can try the above mentioned commands. Ravi |
