Fedora Core 2, SBC DSL, 2wire home portal problem
I have an account with SBC Yahoo DSL with 5 static IPs and am trying to setup a Linux server with Fedora Core 2. I have a 2 wire home portal and a Linksys 5 port hub. My connection works fine if I use DHCP and let the router supply the IPs. But, when I try to set up a static IP I get nowhere.
I am using the following to try to get setup:
static ip: x.x.46.33
gateway: x.x.46.38 <- anyone know if this is correct? this is what they told me to use.
netmask: 255.255.255.0
primary dns and secondary dns are ok.
When I have the linux box set with these parameters I can't even ping the 2wire home portal at 172.16.0.1 but if it's set to dhcp I have no problem pinging it or getting into the config from a webbrowser.
Anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss.
Tnx.

while using dhcp, type route on your fc2 box. the 4th (or so) line should be your default gateway. also, verify that subnet mask - which should be on the 1st line when you type route.
you can also use ifconfig and get the parameters ip, netmask, broadcast while in dhcp to verify the info is proper.

Do I need to assign one of my static IPs to my 2wire homeportal? When I check while using dhcp, my actual ip address shows the same thing they told me that my gateway is... the x.x.46.38 number.
Changed my netmask to 255.255.0.0 but still no go....
