fedora 6, bcm43xx, and WEP

hi all.

hope someone can help...

anyway, i am running fedora core 6 (2.6.20 kernel) and have successfully configured wireless with my bcm43xx wireless adapter using fwcutter. however, i wanted my wireless network more secure so i tried configuring WEP. the only changes i made was to enable WEP on my netgear router and then provide my wireless adapter the key using this command:

# iwconfig eth1 key ##########################

in any case, after doing that, i lost my wireless connection altogether. what's worse is that i tried putting things back to how they were (unsecured) and after i disabled WEP on the router and likewise, turned encryption off within my linux system (iwconfig eth1 enc off), i still cannot access the Internet via wireless. what went wrong??? how can i fix the wireless connection so that its unsecure, but at least connected to the Internet via wireless.

thanks in advance.

That's pretty odd, it looks as if you did everything right. I'm guessing (and believe me, this is a guess) that switching the encryption on and off disassociated you from the access point. Try unloading, then reloading bcm43xx (modprobe -r bcm43xx then modprobe bcm43xx) and then get an IP address (ifup eth1) and see if that works.

You also might post the outputs of ifconfig and iwconfig. Maybe something there is obvious.
