Fedora 12 Linux and 802.11n
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've tried searching for the answer to this and can't seem to find it. Does linux currently support 802.11n speeds? I just got an Intel 4965agn wireless card for my laptop and it only connects at 54Mb/s. I'm using Fedora 12 and a DIR-615 draft 2.0 n router.

What driver is used for Intel 4965agn wireless card?
|
As far as I remember, wireless N doesn't increase the speed yet, just changes the frequency the gear operates on - 5Ghz I think ... once the standard settles down the speeds may increase

I beleive it is possible. I saw this:

I'm using iwlagn. I'm not sure other than that. It comes with the kernel since 2.6.24. http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/ kbp Thank you for that info. I wasn't aware N was at 5Ghz. I haven't used 802.11n yet so I don't know much about it. My card is running on 2.4Ghz @ 54Mb/s which indicates it's connected at G speeds. |

thanks I'll check that out :D |

Here is the output of lspci. iwl4965 doesn't seem to be listed.
Code:
[Josh@JLaptop ~]$ lsmod |
do please
modinfo iwl4965 |
Hi
I have the same card and also the same router as you. I'm using the iwlagn driver and i'm currently connected at 130M. I'm pretty sure it operates at 2.4GHz |
Apologies for misleading, according to wikipedia it operates at both or either of 5/2.4Ghz

[Josh@JLaptop ~]$ modinfo iwl4965 ERROR: modinfo: could not find module iwl4965 @rkski That's good news! It makes me wonder if it's a setting on the router then, or if you have a different card as me. Can you tell me exactly what card you have? (lcpsi | grep Wireless). If it's the same I'll mess around with the settings on the router. I have the latest firmware for the router (H/W version B2, F/W version 2.25). Here's the exact card I have: 0c:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61) @kbp It's okay, thank you for the URL. Thank everyone for your help! Josh |
Why I'm asking about iwl4965 driver, because I think it should be used with Intel 4965agn.
But since rkski said that iwlagn works to him, so it should works to you as well. Check your AP settings if 802.11n is enabled. |
802.11n is enabled.
My AP settings: 802.11 Mode: Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g WPA Mode: Auto (WPA or WPA2) I'll mess around with the wireless settings on my router and see if I can get it to connect through 802.11n. |
You know, there is some way to find out more about wireless card, only if driver supports it.
Try to type: iwlist wlan0 modulation If it is supported = List the modulations supported by the device and the modulations currently enabled. |
