FC5 wireless card
 

Hey, can anyone tell me what wireless cards are supported by Fedora 5. I have a WG511 and i'm sick and tired or trying to get it to work. Thanks.

If you need more specific suggestions, post your requirement - Do you need 802.11G or will B work? Does WPA matter? External antennaconnection? Kismet support? Cost?

Despite the fact this thread is long since abandonded, I need a card with the requirements you mentioned. FC5 drivers, Kismet support, 802.11G support, WPA support, preferrably external antenna. I already have fashioned a coffee cantenna that hooks up to my desktop to probe networks within the line of sight, but wardriving is where I'd like to take my laptop.

Any cards stand head and shoulders above the rest in these regards?

Is there anything for a little bit cheaper? I'm getting other suggestions elsewhere, but they don't support 802.11g, which I thought was important in this day and age. If necessary I'll drop the 80 dollars on a new card, plus whatever the pointlessly expensive external antenna pigtail will be, but I'd like to make sure there aren't any less expensive options that will work as well floating around.

Hey cheekio I bought a linksys wg54 wireless card off of ebay for 25 dollars. I downloaded ndiswrapper and installed it run the windows driver for the card through it. Rebooted and the card has been working perfectly ever since.

I'm sure there are others, but the combination of Kismet support, external antenna and 802.11G limits the choices somewhat.

Look for an Atheros chipset to make life simple.

I went ahead and got the expensive, multipurpose card 2Gnu suggested, and now I'm having trouble setting it up. I installed the madwifi drivers correctly, but when I try to iwconfig, I get:

The only information about libiw.so.27 is from back in the fc3 days, and I'm trying to install on a fc4 machine. What the hell?

According to this link, libiw.so.27 is included in the Wireless Tools package: http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...ry=libiw.so.27

Make sure you're using the latest and that you've correctly identified the lib path when compiling the madwifi driver.
