Encryption problem on Ubuntu 8.04
I am new to linux and trying to set up my wireless network at home.
When Encryption is off on my router I can connect to it and all is well, but when I put encryption on with WEP then I can not connect with linux (windows pc in the house connect fine). I am using static IPs on the network. When encryption is on and I do a scan with iwlist then I can see the ESSID but no connection.

Please let me know if there is any other info you need.

Thanks for the help in advance.

What do you do to connect to your router?
Ubuntu 8.04 has the NetworkManager running by default - a little icon at the right in the upper panel lets you control it.
It is AFAIK designed to work with dynamic adresses.
If it is running it could probably interfere with your efforts to assign static adresses.
To have your computers assigned the same address all the time while using dhcp, you can use MAC-address reservation on the router - the effect is the same as having static adresses.

Apart from that: WEP is not really an encryption worth the name.

I have changed from WEP to WSK and all is working well.
