Suse 9.0 wireless problems

Okay this is install what? number 4?, 5?!!!! Everytime in install somebody tells me something is wrong in the installation and 'THATS' why i can't get the card to work. I've stopped believing them. I just installed suse 9.0 professional edition. Everything went great. The interface is beautiful, but i've spent so much time on the konsole trying to get drivers to install, and modprobing this and modprobing that that i have a headache. i have got a d-link dwl 520 rev. e card. I believe that it has got a prism 2.5 wavelan chipset in it but i could be mistaken. Suse wants to use the hostap_pci module (it says this when i go into yast, and look at the hardware configuration of that network card, which it claims is configured) and thats fine with me so long as it works but when i do:

modprobe hostap_pci

i get some error saying the device doesn't exist. (i'd give the full error message but my linux box doesn't have network access, and mounting -w a drive scares me cause i've had the file allocation table go crap on me before doing that). Okay so. Can somebody please PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! give me a completely noobified way of getting this damn thing to access the network! from step 1, launching a browser, or a telnet session etc. Here are the specs if you need them

card, d-link dwl 520 rev. E (pci)
linksys wireless b router
i am using DHCP
default gateway is: 192.168.1.1
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

as an added bonus i've got a couple gmail invites to throw around should anybody give me an answer.

Do you want to use native drivers or is it no problem to use the windows drivers and ndiswrapper?

Hello djrevelation,

Thanks for the offer of the gmail invites but I've got too many already. Anyhow, I'll TRY and help as I would imagine other people are trying to do. I'm afraid these are all suggestions and one of them is sure to work. What I usually do is go for a walk along the canal near where I live when I get fed up and when I get back I'm ready to give it another go. I've seen ever inch of that canal let me tell you. Anyway, on with it!

First, the good news. Your card is listed on this sites HCL, courtesy of a nice chap called Andrew Barr (maybe he would like GMail)

http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...hp?product=637

Now the bad news - it aint got no firmware!

Now for some good news - the dude who posted the HCL entry has written a guide on getting your card up and running!

Okay, Maybe I will have that gmail invite after all. I'd like to see what all the fuss is about.
Regards
Chris
