do not recieve correct ip address from dhcp server

Hi,

I'm trying to connect to a network that uses LAN addresses of the form 10.1.x.x. When I request an ip address with dhcpcd, I get assigned an ip address of the form 192.168.x.x. If I manually change the ip address to 10.1.x.x, fix the subnet mask, and afterwords assign the gateway with route, the computer works fine on the network. I have created a script to do this, so it "works".

My question is, why would I get assigned the 192.168 number instead of the 10.1 number?

Thanks,
Brian

Sounds like the problem lies with the DHCP server, not your computer. DHCP server has to be told the range of IP addresses to use. It's just doing what it is told to do. Is this a wireless router that you have access to?

Alas, I have no (physical) access to the wireless router, and cannot change anything.
