DLink DWA-642 PCMCIA on Slackware 10.2

Hi all,

I'm trying to install a Dlink DWA-642 PCMCIA wireless card into my laptop running under Slackware 10.2.

Since the Atheros chipset is supported by madwifi, this is the way I chose to go rather than ndiswrapper. I followed the instructions from the madwifi site.

The problem is that I can't seem to have an ath0 interface show up. All I see is eth0 and lo which I know are my ethernet card and localhost loopback.

It might be PCMCIA related also. I've run lspci -v and I can see the card there but since I can't seem to get an ath0 interface to show up, I'm not excluding this as a possibility.

The madwifi driver seems to load up properly since I see these 3 messges when I boot up:
ath_hal 0.9.18.0 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, ...)
wlan: 0.8.4.2 (0.9.3.3)
ath_pci: 0.9.4.5 (0.9.3.3)

Thanks in advance for any help

Try this command:

Quote:
dhcpcd ath0 up
If that work, you can add this to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, 'dhcpcd ath0 up'. It will bring the wifi connection up on reboot.

This worked for me on a desktop system using a dlink wireless card. Hopefully get will get you in the right direction.
