dhcp to root works but not in user acount ?

Iam new to linux and networking my problem is that dhcpcd works good as root but . Iam not sure how to get my user account going i have been using a dial up ISP on my user account through kppp on xfce but still learnig. Iam using slackware 9.1 and have a wlan through a wrt54g linksys router. Any help would be appreciated
