debian: wireless card not detected correctly after kernel upgrade to 2.6

I had a wireless card working fine before upgrading to a 2.6 kernel under debian. Now, ifconfig shows eth1 (the wireless card) but with a HWaddr of 00-00-00... which is obviously wrong. The IP displayed is correct (specified in /etc/network/interfaces). There's also a regular network card, which is correctly detected.

I am not sure exactly what type of card it is; how can I further diagnose this problem?

Thanks!

ifconfig -a output

on further perusal:

ifconfig -a says that there are two more devices: eth2 and wifi0 which have reasonable HWaddr parameters. does 2.6 change the name of the devices? what files do i need to update to take the changes into account?

Maybe take a look at /etc/network/interfaces and see what is there regarding the wireless interfaces. It could be that upgrade changed/overwrote the default configuration.

If the router has WEP, you may need to add the appropriate WEP key to the configuration file.

If you don't absolutely need 2.6 boot your old kernel.
