D-link PCMCIA wireless card in Redhat

Hi,

I am currently trying to get my DWL-650 PCMCIA card working on my laptop running Redhat 7.3 (kenrel 2.4.18-3). I am very new to linux but I have been doing a lot of reading and have learnt quite a bit from previous posts in this forum, but still can't quite get it to work.

At boot up the card is detected fine, I hear 2 beeps, the green light starts flashing but I get the message:

Starting PCMCIA: Yenta IRQ list 06b8, PCI irq11
Socket Status: 30000059
Starting up APM daemon: wvlan_cs: Initialsiation failed

Typing iwconfig shows no wireless extensions.
From previous posts I tried "dhcpcd eth1" and iwconfig still showed no wireless extensions, but this time if I tried "iwconfig eth1" it displayed all the wireless stats like ESSID, Nickname, mode, access point etc. Also the green LED stayed on.

ifconfig eth1 showed Link encap:Ethernet
and this time HWaddr displayed correctly instead of 00:00:00:00:00:00

From further reading I tried ifconfig and gave it an IP address and this time I could ping the server but nothing else.

I assume the card is working but I still can't get an internet connection. I tried the gnome gui and clicked on internet config wizard and this time i could add the wvaln_cs(eth1) device and activate it and the card was automatically assigned an ip address but i still can't access the internet through my browser. The card is communicating through a dwl-900 access point which is patched into the network.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help appreciated.

If its a true DWL-650, this will work, and should work well under the orinoco_cs module. In order to get that to load, just stick the hermes.conf file from here.
in /etc/pcmcia.

Then check out the command line utility, iwconfig, which will let you set essid, rate, encryption, yadyada.

You have the orinoco_cs modules compiled... its just the default cardmgr config file doesn't have an entry for them.

Cheers,

Finegan
