connecting to wireless network - "no device found"

I just installed Mandrake 2006 last night & I'm having trouble connecting to my home network (all other computers are windows) I'm using a linksys WUSB11 V2.6 802.11b Adapter. I think I have the right firmware installed (at76c503-rfmd.bin from thekelleys.org.uk) but now that I do it's telling me no device found. I'm sure it's plugged in, and I'm not sure what the problem is...

was this ever working at all previously?

is the device compatible with linux?

try it in another os or live cd (like knoppix) to make sure your 'upgrade' went correctly.

good luck.
