Connecting Linux to a Complex Windows wifi network

In my school we have a complex wireless network that has many wireless access points.

On windows all these access points only show up as one connection called School-Wireless-Network which has WEP encryption which ive cracked I know the key and I connected my laptop (when on windows) to the internet without the help of the school's system team.

I have dual booted my laptop with mandriva 2006. In mandriva when I open the wireless network list it shows many many wireless connections with an essid of <hidden> only sometimes it shows up many of the connections as <School-Wireless-Network>. I have tried connecting to these connections but I was unsuccessful.

Any ideas on any linux programs that can assist me with this? I might soon migrate to Suse 10.1 when I finally figure out howto get mp3s and videos working on it. If you think that suse may have better networking capabilities please tell.

Thanks in advance.

bull** use FedoraCore, but if you still want to use Suse there is a wonderful STICKY Thread that explains how to get the fullPower mp3 and stuff multi media crap support.
Did you use a qui to join them?
you can use the console to issue the command iwconfig to connect your wlan card to the wireless network.
so if you know what the key is and the correct name of the ssid and if there is no mac filter on the ap's. then for e.g.
Code:

iwconfig wlan0 essid nameofthatssid key 5B3F929A17C4C659FD081C9DB7

or as passphrase

iwconfig wlan0 essid nameofthatssid key s:daistmeinesecretpassphrase

kismet is also a nice tool to check what other don't want you to see.... ;-)

The multimedia crap is sorted

I managed to get the multimedia crap sorted.

I will try fedora core when the new version comes out.

I shall check out the iwconfig thingy.
