[SOLVED] Configing wireless card for kali VM

Having a bit of trouble getting this up and running? I'm sure this question comes up a million times, but please don't tire of answering it just yet.

the lspci output of my VM is as follows. Unfortunately i see no reference to any type of wireless card.

I do have 3 nic configured for various purposes. I have added a fourth virtual nic just in case i need to use that.

I also ran a

lspci -nn | grep -i net

but drew a blank.

Then I ran a

Code:

dmesg | grep wireless

but drew a blank

I know from my windows host the wireless hardware is a Ralink technology model of some kind(i haven't opened my case to get the exact model.

In case i wasn't clear, which i don't think i was...

What is stopping my VM recognising the wireless card hardware? what do i need to do to get it to recognise it.

Kali is a linux distro that conforms to the debian standard. It is the descendant of backtrack.

So for anyone else that might be having this issue.

Whether using virtualbox or vmware or other hypervisor the vm cannot access a pci wireless card. it will see it as an ethernet connection. why i don't know but i have seen that referenced as the issue a few times e.g.

So the solution is to connect a USB wireless device. How that works I'll find out when it arrives in the post
