Centos 4.2 & ndiswrapper: set essid locks system
 

Maybe y'all can help me with this. I've been banging my head on it for a week. I used to run Slackware 10.1 on my T40, and with ndiswrapper 1.4 and the drivers off my cd I could get my Dlink G630 working, no problems. Now I'm trying it on Centos 4.2 and everything seems to work fine until I try to set the key. The system just locks immediately and I have to cycle the power. No errors in the logs either that I can find. Card is detected as 104c:9066 TI ACX111. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried several different ndiswrapper versions, disabling acpi, and tested installing while using ubuntu live cd and that worked, so I dunno. Kinda stumped on how to proceed.

I'm guessing there is some incompatibility between CentOS and the Windows driver. You might try using a different driver and see if that helps. By the way, since CentOS is basically Fedora, the infamous 4K stack problem may be rearing its ugly head. You might need a kernel that you know doesn't have that particular problem. However, if that is an ACX111 chipset, there are native linux drivers here.

The acx project needs 2.6.10 according to their wiki. I also tried linuxant's 16k stack rpm's, but then I couldn't get ndiswrapper to compile :mad: . No biggie. I was just trying to get centos running on a home box as we're trying to get some boxes going at work (laptop, desktop and server), and I needed to study up. I guess we can always go with a different distro. I usually average a distro every 2-3 months on that old laptop.

I'll wait a bit and see if anyone has any other suggestions. After that I guess I can start a thread on suggestions for other business like distros.
