Card, AP working- just cant get an IP

Hello-

I am trying to get an IP with my wireless card. I have done MULTIPLE searches on this forum and unfortunately I can not get it to work.

First, I am using ndiswrapper with my Netgeat WG311. I am running Fedora 2 and I installed the kernel patch from Linuxant to increase the stacks.

Basically, when I do a iwlist wlan0 scan, I am getting the AP to show up. Therefore, I set the AP address (via the MAC address), set the essid, set the encryption code, set all the info. My card does update the information and I am still unable to connect.

So I tried to add the default gateway- no avail- it says network is unreachable.

Basically, my card is detecting the AP- but not connecting to it. I have inserted all the settings. Tried to manually insert them.. and I get nothing.

Does anyone have ideas? It is real hard for me to post anything that I get when I type commands because the computer doesnt get a connection to do that!

Thanks a lot!

Best,
Joe

It looks as if you simply haven't taken the next step, which is to request an IP address. I think fedora uses dhclient, in which case you need to issue the command dhclient wlan0 as root. That should get you an IP address. You could also assign a fixed ipaddress with ifconfig:

ifconfig 1.2.3.4 (replace that with the IP you really want to use)
route add default gw 4.5.6.7 (this would be your router's IP address)

You would also need to edit your /etc/resolv.conf file to include your ISP's DNS servers.
