Cannot set iwconfig attributes on wlan0 yet kismet works

I am using the Auditors Security Collection LIVE Toolkit CD. I have a PRISM2 USB Wireless device. Ashton Digitial WRUB-2011i. I boot the live cd, open a command prompt window and run the following commands.

C) Run 'modprobe prism2_usb prism2_doreset=1' to load the driver into memory.
D) Run 'wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable' to initialize the
driver+MAC functions.

I then run iwconfig and see the following

wlan0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID: ""
Mode: Auto Frequency: 2.432 GHz Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
etc...

I can run the kismet utility just great, I see lots of access points, I can pick out clients and mac address and everything so I know the device is working. My issue is when I try to lock onto an SSID or Channel using iwconfig.

iwconfig wlan0 channel 6 (gives the following error)

Error for wireless request "Set Frequency" (8B04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported

I get similar errors when trying to set the ESSID or Mode. I've tried setting it to "Managed" mode and even to "Monitor" mode, all return Operation not supported. Any ideas?

I'd prefer to stay away from using the NDISWrapper as that will not allow me to run in Monitor mode.
