Can not get Linksys WMP11 v4 working on Slack 9.1 - Don't want to return it tho
Hey all,
I have a few questions. Some of them maybe repeats, but I've definitely tried to read as many of the threads as possible. Currently I have a Linksys WMP11 v4 card. I'm running Slackware 9.1. It's on a Dell Optiplex GX1 (PIII 600 MHz, 128 MB RAM) Right now I can not get the card to be recognized. I know that the chipset is not a fan favorite with Linux, but I honestly don't want to return it (no return policy ). So far i've tried using the orinoco drives that came with Slackware (didn't work obviously). Next I tried the steps written by Peter Harrison on LinuxHomeNetworking which also did not work (however I think it might be because of the difference between RedHat and Slackware, not sure tho). I've also tried using Linuxant's DriverLoader and it could not recognize the card either. I did do a lspci -v and it would list it as a "Unknonwn Device" but it did recognize it as a Linksys device (not sure if that's relevant).
So in summary, is there any way (switching my distro to Fedora, Mandrake, etc) or anything else that might make it work without returning it. If my only hope is to get a new one, what would you recommend for a card. Even tho I'm a n00b, I'd like to try Slackware, but I'm open to any and all suggestions.
Thank you so much for your help,
Bryan

The deciding factor is the chipset the card uses, not the manufacturer. If I remember correctly, the v4 of that card switched from a Broadcom chipset to something else. Try posting the output of lspci and maybe we can figure out what chipset it is using.

I'm away from the box, but I know for a sure fact that the chipset is a InProComm INP2120. I can get you the lspci printout when I get back.

i don't think any routers are OS dependent.

You may be able to pay for the Connexant wrapper. Its supposed to wrap that chipset and make it workable.
...and true. Routers should be accessible by any browser. The card, on the other hand...

You know, at no point has anyone posted what chipset this card uses. It is possible that it is supported by ndiswrapper, but without the chipset, it is hard to tell.
