Belkin USB Wireless G Problem on Ubuntu

Hello, I am rather new to linux. I an decent when it comes to general windows and computer stuff, but i have been with linux now for about a week, so im a noob.

I have Ubuntu 7.04 installed and i am attempting to use my Belkin wireless USB Network adapter with little luck. I have looked all over the web and attempted every "howto" and "guide" i could find, and i have made no progress.

I know my specific wireless device uses the "rt73" driver

I have also tried the ndiswrapper, also with no luck

Currently, when i try to connect to my Netgear router it will try to connect then fail after a minute or two, i am getting a signal from my router, usually about 80%-90%, there in no wep key or anything, i disabled them hopefully to eliminate them as an issue.

i would be so very grateful if some one could point me in the right direction, or give me some sort of guide or walk through as to how i can get this device to work

Thank you all so much

when i type "ifconfig" into the terminal, i get...
bash: command not found

i installed Open SuSE 10.2 to test it out, and when ever i try to install the drivers in the terminal i get...

tar (filename)- this works fine
cd (filename) - this also works fine
make - this returns something along the lines of..
*** No rule to make target "modules" Stop
Leaving Directory
rt73.ko failed to build
module Error 1
make install returns errors aswell, i assume because "make" does not work

in the SuSE network setup, my device is listed as having module "rt2500usb", when the drivers on the factory cd are "rt73" and im attempting to install a rt73 module, and my device is a belkin rt2570

when i try to install ndiswrapper, i get the same make errors

Thank you all very much
