LinuxQuestions.org - Belkin F5D6020 Version 1

Hello-
I would like to give a brief synopsis of the troubles that I have experienced using Belkin F5D6020 version 1 so that no one purchases this wireless card!
Sure enough I went to www.linux-wlan.org and found that this Belkin card was supported using the linux-wlan-ng pcmcia_cs driver. So I figured I would purchase it and give it a go. What I didn't realize is how much of a headache it would be (fortunately it cost me less than 20 dollars).
There is very little information on the internet, please someone correct me if I'm wrong, regarding the F5D6020 version 1 not 2 or 3...this is the one with the prism chip.
After recompling my kernel, downloading and installing the drivers, my cardmgr would still not recognize my drivers (no card in socket). Perhaps this is my own fault....again if anyone has any suggestions?
So I figured...well I have Windows XP on here too so I could just use wireless for XP and use my ethernet card when I'm using Linux...wrong again! The Belkin software for Windows that was included with my card is crappy. It doesn't install correctly...it keeps generating errors. After talking to the Belkin techs for a few hours they were unable to help me. Furthermore I have concluded that Belkin cards are crap...don't buy them! They don't work on Linux or Windows.
If anyone wants to rebutt my claims, I would encourage them. Especially if they know how I can fix my problems :)
But I would not recommend this card to anyone. This card gets a 0 out of a 10. I suggest buying a card that has a driver in the kernel or one with better support.
