Atheros + Knetworkmanager

I have my atheros card up and running. I can connect via command line or wlassistant (which is very limited). However, when I try to use knetworkmanager, I get the following:

Any ideas how to make it recognize ath0?

I believe so.

On some distros, you have to comment out the interfaces (etc lo) in /etc/network/interfaces.

This allows network manager to take control!

I did this, rebooted, and I get "No wireless network found". Curious, I tried...
$ iwlist ath0 scan
No Scan Results.
