AT&T Plug&Share Suse Linux 9.2 (solved)

I'm attempting to get an AT&T Plug&Share 54Mbps Wireless PCI adapter to get running under Suse 9.2 Professional. The device came up as an Atheros chipset more specifically AR5212 module ath_pci. I have an apple Airport not more than 10 feet from me and another NetGear Wireless access point not to much further. The wireless adapter is my only means of connecting this computer to our internal network. Now on to the problem. The device comes up and reads and I can configure it. The only problem is that it's not finding the Airport or the Netgear AP. I have been attempting to work on it unsuccessfully for about 5 hours now and I would appreciate some help from the guru's at this site. If you guys can help I would be greatly appreciative of you. Thank you muchly for your time.

Hello furrymaho,

The problem here may well be that its finding both! What would be great is an out put from the command:
Code:
iwconfig
This will indicate what's been set and what hasn't. You may want to try running the command:
Code:
dhclient <interface name goes here>
where the interface name may be ath0 or wlan0, depending on your iwconfig output. This will obtain an IP lease from the specified AP.
Hope this helps but if not please post back.
Regards
Chris "Not a linux guru" B.

Well I just got done installing madwifi from a cvs snapshot that I took earlier today and i'm not getting any readout from my iwconfig. I have no clue what I did or did not do right. All i did was the standard make && make install and I figured that that would work... so I restarted the computer and thought that the interface would auto load and now I'm getting no readout what so ever. Did I just miss a big step with madwifi or is that how things are suppose to work?

*************

I just went through and I noticed that the ath_pci module was not running so I insmod it and it tells me that it fails because of an unknown symbol in the module. Anyone know of a fix?

Code:
iwconfig

lo no wireless extensions
sit0 no wireless extensions
I also noticed that in the install of madwifi that it said
Code:
*** Warning:"ieee80211_ioctl_iwsetup"[/root/madwifi/ath/ath_pci.ko]Undefined!

Alright this is kinda silly but whatever... The answer was right in front of my face. I reinstalled SuSe and ran iwlist ap and went through and found a connection that worked. I can't believe how simple that was. Oh well.. you live and you learn... I just want to thank you for your time and patience.
