Are any WNIC's detected via Linux?

Does anyone know if any Linksys cards are detected by Linux or can be installed w/o the nightmare wrapper? I would like to have a wireless connection but don't know what card is pretty much plug and play and or simple linux drivers to download and isntall.

Thanks for any info.

I understand your pain, but the ndiswrappers aren't that bad. Still, netgear and some of the linksys-G cards are better, but because of linksys's history, I'd hate to recommend one to you, simply because who knows what can happen tommorrow.

I have recently aquired a Netgrear WG511 wireless network card to use with my suse9.2 pro. I would say the card was recognized quickly and without any problems, I only had to install the prism54 firmware update and I did the configuration using Kwifimanager. There was absolutely no need for ndiscrapper or anything of that sort.

At the time, I was also considering getting the linksys WPC54G, but I would say, people didnīt have such a great experience with the card so I opted for the netgear.

I have purchased the card after reading about peopleīs opinions on cards and i realized that this was on of the best and most compatible. One thing to keep in mind, when buying the same card, there are two versions v1 and v2, the one I have is v1 which is based on the prism54 chipset. Reading through, I realized that people are having a hard time getting v2 to work on linux. To distinguish between them, the v2 card clearly has v2 outside on the box. Moreover, The color of the card is different, its actually charcoal greay as compared to the silver color of v1. Check the image in the link below.
Look at the v2 in the picture

Search for wg511 on google and you will see pictures of the other version.

Hope this was helpful.
