Amazing increase in internet download speed with Ubuntu 8.10 update!

Today I downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 updates-amazingly fast.So I checked speed at Vodafone New Zealand, as recommended by Simon Bridge. Download 4154 Kb, 519.9 KB/sec. Upload same as usual-354Kb, 44.1KB/sec. Latency 197 ms.This compares to about 25 KB/sec download previously. Anyone able to verify this?
(Wednesday) I checked download speed on Fedora 9. Still running about 25 KB/sec.The Fedora site promises Fedora 10 in 20 days. Maybe will fix?

New Fedora 9 info: Kernel, downloaded in 11/21 update/upgrade - solved internet speed problem. Download: 754 KB/sec Upload 44 KB/sec. Latency 215ms.Used Vodafone speedometer as before.

Hardware: Linksys WRT54G wireless router;WUSB54Gv4 adapter.
