Advice on Netgear USB adapter

Hi
I recently put together bits I had left over from upgrading my PCs to create a new pretty basic computer.
I thought it would be fun to download a free distribution of Linux (I forget which one) in order to learn about it and maybe move away from Windows OSs. The distro worked ok except for my wireless network which uses a usb adapter. Being a total newbie, the advice I was able to find on the Internet was complete gobbledegook to me.
I would be grateful if anyone could recommend a (preferably free to start) distribution of Linux where I could just plug in my networking devices to surf the Internet. Or really easy instructions on how to install the hardware.

I have a Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router and several Netgear USB 2.0 WG121 adapters.

Thanks

Not sure about that adaptor, but my experience so far has been that getting usb wifi stuff in linux is a pain, I believe with your adaptor you would have to use ndiswrapper with the windows drivers, I haven't tried that myself yet but I hear many people have had sucess with it, somebody get the WG121working?
