access point in bridge mode, like a switch or a hub?

Hi,

Wireless equipment is now cheap so I'm buying some to play with. I plan to set
up a wireless bbs, run public fileservers for anyone in range and test nocat and mobilemesh.

I reading about what is available and desciding what to buy.

When an access point is in bridge mode does it transmit all traffic on the wired LAN or does it act like a switch and only transmit packets addresses to the MAC addresses of wireless cards?

What about dedicated wireless bridge units?

Its like a switch, it caches arp entries for all the clients on either side. You can actually just get a wireless card, as long as its driver supports master mode, you can then use the kernel bridging code to create your own bridge between networks.

I've never used set-top box bridging units... plenty of them out there, 4xRJ-45 plugs and a wireless AP.

Cheers,

Finegan
