a/b/g card stuck in 11a mode

I have a Cisco a/b/g pcmcia wireless card that is working but, is stuck in 802.11a mode.

How can I change this? Scanning doesn't seem to find anything even though there is a 11g AP standing next to me.

Changing the frequency in ifcfg-ath0 doesn't help. Maybe I'll try Mhz value instead of Channel #

To answer my own question,

Specific to the Madwifi drivers, one can use iwpriv to set the mode for the wireless card.

iwpriv ath0 mode 0 a/b/g mode
iwpriv ath0 mode 1 a
iwpriv ath0 mode 2 b mode
iwpriv ath0 mode 3 g mode

It's all in the Madwifi README file. Make sure you do 'ifconfig ath0 up'
