3com Wireless PCI adapter configuration problems on Slackware 10.2

I am using slackware 10.2

I installed ndiswrapper with the 3com driver.

I used iwconfig to configure the interface
I also put in my information into the rc.wireless.conf file, as well as the rc.inet1.conf file
and put the following lines in the rc.local
-modprobe ndiswrapper
-ifconfig wlan0 up
-dhcpcd wlan0

I am trying to connect to a nortel wireless network.

any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

ALSO - I have noticed that my card says : IEEE:802.11b where it should say 802.11a. any ideas how to fix that would help.

What happens when you do all this? Can you associate? Do you get an IP?

when i boot the computer i get this error

error for wireless requrest "Set Frequency" (8b04) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; invalid argument.
invalid command : Set
invalid command : Set
invalid command : Set

Then i do an ifconfig and the device is not "up"
and there is no ip address or any kind of signal or connection.

I dont know how to program my card to be on the A radio
