Wireless in Virtualbox?
Im new to virtual machines and when attempting an install, I realized that my wireless wasnt appearing for me. Wireless host connection appears as virtual wired...Is there a way to setup up wireless? I read that I might need to pick up an adapter so the virtualbox can tie directly to the dongle via usb?

You will ONLY see wired connectors if you are using NAT and virtual networking. If you use BRIDGED networking you can see the physical interfaces. I advise against it for most use, but it is an option. HOST connection is a virtual network WITHIN the networking between the host and guest, and there IS no physical interface. Looking for WIFI in the host connection would be silly (at best).

I agree that vm with nat will be as simple as it can be usually.
A host configured nic be it wired or wireless would/could be available to the client to use as a wired connection. If one were to apply the additions or tools that allows the attachment of a usb device or possibly some pci passthrough one could attach directly the device to the client. As with all vm technology the host OS, host hardware and VM choice can have effects on any setting. |
As stated VirtualBox has limited access to physical hardware. If are running kali in VirtualBox and are trying to run any sort of wireless penetration tools etc. you need a USB wireless adpater.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the input. I guess ill just have to pick up an adapter some time soon to get it going....Dont usually run vbox for my regular os's but Kali was running like shit as a clean install and need it till get through this class so needed to try something different.
