So far, I have found out the following about VMWare Workstation 10 and I am posting what I found out in case it might help solve some problems other people might have. Likely, what I found out about VMWare Workstation 10 also applies to later versions of VMWare Workstation and Player as well but I haven't tested that:
If you first install all gcc compiler programs, all glibc development packages and headers, and all kernel development packages and headers, the installed VMWare program will be able to compile and build custom kernel modules for your linux distribution, such that it will be able to run on your linux distribution. What VMWare Workstation 10 can actually run on greatly exceeds what VMWare support says that it can run on. So far, I have been able to get VMWare Workstation 10 to install and run on openSUSE 10.3 and openSUSE 13.2, both of which VMWare support says are not supported by VMWare Workstation 10.
VMWare Workstation 10 will run guest operating systems that VMWare support says it doesn't run. For example, VMWare Workstation 10 will run Windows 95 and it has been documented that it will also run Windows 10.
