vmware recognizes usb wireless but backtrack doesnt
hi im new to backtrack and i installed a 32bit backtrack 5r1 to a vmware virtual machine. the netgear usb card i plug into my computer is recognized by vmware but i cannot get it to show up in backtrack, when i run airmon-ng it only shows my internal card. i could really use some help thx a lot.
Have you started the networking service? I can't remember exactly (it's been ages since I used backtrack) but you should be able to do it from the BT menu in the bottom-left, or from the command line by using something like
/etc/init.d/networking start
is the actual command but ive tried this and only my internal card that is on my laptop shows up and even with that i cant scan for wireless networks

VMware (Server is all I know) doesn't export more than two Ethernet devices and not wireless ones. It can however share USB peripherals with the guest. Then it's up to the guests kernel and wireless-tools package to recognize the card, configure and load the right kernel modules. Once the card is shared your guests syslog, 'dmesg' and 'lsusb' commands should show what it makes of it.
