Vmware 7.0.1 in Ubuntu10.04 - issues with 3D
I have Ubuntu 10.04.
First I installed VMWare for Ubuntu, version 7.0.1 I have an AMDX64 Processor. My video card is ATI HD 3650. Then I installed the ATI drivers for my card: lspci | grep VGA 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3600 Series sudo glxinfo [sudo] password for euubuntu: name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: ATI server glx version string: 1.4 The HD videos plays fine in Ubuntu-Firefox - there is no glitching, no error. Then I installed a WindowsXP machine in VMWare. There is a problem: when it comes to 3D or to diplaying of HD videos, the virtual machine has some issues in diplaying correctly: the screen "flickers", the video is not played correctly (the frames are intercalated with previous frames). The problem aggravates when I try to run Win7 in the virtual machine-because of the Aero Theme which requires 3D, this is not displayed correctly in the virtual machine screen and this leads to "screen flickering" and "glitches". Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? |
First of all, VMware (I presume you are using Workstation and I presume this is a Linux version...) is up to version 7.1.1. They have greatly improved their 3D driver.
Second, there IS some sort of 3D driver for XP, but their major emphasis is on the driver they are using with Vista and Windows 7. Third, that processor is quite old. I personally went through a major system upgrade earlier this year because my Athlon XP2700 processor (about the same vintage as yours, but 32 bit) was no longer cutting it, particularly with multimedia. My requirements for my virtual machines told me I needed to upgrade. I very strongly suspect that when you've upgraded to 7.1.1 and have the same performance problems, you'll then do some performance monitoring of your system and you'll conclude it is time to upgrade. |
ok thanks, I'll try to upgrade VMWare to 7.1.1
