Virtualbox winxp virtual machine just can't access serial port
Hello, I just can't get my windows xp install running in a virtualbox to access the serial port. I have several programs that need to access my serial port and they each give the error that they can't open the port.
I've got it configured for direct pass-through (or whatever you call it).
My main computer is ubuntu 9.04 running the vm. Version of virtualbox is 3.0.6
Is there a chance that the serial port service in windows is not running? Or even, can windows firewall block access? It may not be a problem with VB...
BTW, I'm not a programmer, so if what I just posted is crap, please ignore it. Just trying to think of reasons. Is it possible another program or service is using that port? For instance, a printer driver, USB, bluetooth, etc. Also, in the link in the first post, the poster refers to not using COM1, and he picked COM3 to test that he could open the port.
I'm pretty sure no port is being used in the windows virtual machine because i've done a new, fresh install of windows xp and have the exact same issue.
How could I check and see if the port is being used/blocked somehow by linux? Maybe it's my ubuntu install or virtualbox setup that is causing the issue.
