virtualbox freezes at guest system install of iso image, on every linux distro
I use vbox on various pcs without pb.
But on a DFI Lanparty Jr P45 board, with cpu intel quad core 9550, vbox (3.2.6 or -8) x64 freezes the system as soon as I install a system image in the guest. I tried ubuntu, opensuse, mandriva, fedora. What log do you need to diagnose this pb ? Is it hardware, bios, or OS related ?
I want to use virtualbox 3.2.8 or 3.2.10 on a x64 linux distro, the host being just used to manage the virtual sessions (i am thinking about gentoo, but once this issue is solved). I need 5 guests on XP and 2 guests on linux, maybe one 1 more for OS testing

Another way to formulate the question could be : what hardware is proved compatible for such a config ? I just want my quad core for working, anything else can be changed in cas of hardware compatibility.
Thank you for your help.

Hi, Welcome to LQ!

Virtualbox (3.2.10 r66523) works fine on my x86_64 system.

Did you do a md5sum/check on the iso to verify a full download?

I suspect your iso is broken.

The isos are good and work on Vbox on another machine

If the isos are on the cd then it is ok if they work fine on a different computer. Check some iso on the hard drive or a pen drive. Also try to see if you can boot with a floppy drive -there are some intersting linux distros there.
If none of this is an issue then reinstall virtual box. I prefer qemu.
After a crash you can run 'lastlog' and see what happened. BTW all the logs are in /var/log.

I changed the motherboard and it works fine, so I consider this thread as solved.
But still, it raises the problem of hardware or configuration problems detection for specific applications, if anyone know some utilities to work from a linux os, welcome.
