Virtualbox 5.1.0 working (slowly) in Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon 64-bit - but....
Hey all.
I succeeded installing Oracle Virtualbox 5.1.0 and expansion from Oracle website in my fresh installed Linux mint 18 64-bit Cinnamon.
Now I can run Win 7 inside the Virtualbox and get internet access as such...
BUT there are some problems, 2 big and 1 minor I know for now.
Big problems:
1: The internet access from within the Virtualbox are painfully slow, in more that 10 hours, it did not start downloading updates from Windows update?!
2: Even I can get internet acccess, I can't get access to my Synology NAS with fully working SAMBA server?
Minor problem:
1: I can't make it change USB flash drive from within the Virtualbox, when I change the physical drive.
VB and the extensions generally help the clients act more integrated with the user experience.
In some cases they provide a different virtual hardware. However that doesn't seem to be your issue exactly. You can double check it to see what virtual nic it is using and or add in a new or replace the virtual nic for the client.
As for local access there are there are two common ways that a user attaches a client to the host. One is Bridged and the other is NAT. Both have ways to use most things but each set up is unique. So, use ipconfig in windows to make note of ip address. If not within you lan segment than you'll have to fool with it to get netbios over a router(I think) or just switch it to bridged so that it is within you lan's subnet.
