Virtual Machine/Emulator recommendation.

I would like to study Virtual Machines/Emulators and also study how they are used with Linux Servers. Can anyone recommend one that is Opensource, well documented and common with Linux Servers? I'll take two out of three.

Thanks....................in..................advance!

Your best bets would probably be VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/ (for virtual machines) and WINE http://www.winehq.org/ for emulation (sort of).

Hope this helps some.

As for all i would say "it depends".

For learning opensource based virtualization i would suggest KVM or Xen. For commercial i would suggest learning VMWare ESXi or Citrix XenServer.

One of the most easy is VMplayer and Virtualbox.

Might look at bochs and qemu too.
