virt-manager virtual terminal often steals focus unless minimized
Hi,
I really like how the virtual terminals work under virt-manager.
In particular, the possibility of switching between different VT-s using Ctrl+Fx is really nice (and not being switched to the actual VT of the host).
But I often find myself in a really annoying situation.
Say, I open some application that grabs the focus and virt-manager window goes behind. I start typing in the application's window (most often terminal emulator) and I don't see the characters showing up ;-) Basically, they go to the virtual-manager VT emulator window, although it is a background window.
Minimizing the virt-manager window solves the problem.
It's not easy to reproduce, because it does not happen every time (which is even more annoying ;-)).
Do you possibly know what could be causing this behavior?
I was wrong. I can actually reproduce the problem perfectly:
1. Launch the VM with VT.
2. Launch host's terminal emulator.
3. Bang, the cursor still belongs to VM's VT, although the just launched host's terminal emulator is actually foreground window and the virtual machine is in background.
It is not limited to terminal emulator. If I launch e.g. Writer, the cursor stays in VM too.
I have to switch the windows multiple times or minimize the VM window to recover the cursor.
One observation though: if the other application (be it terminal emulator or Writer) gains the cursor once, from now on it behaves correctly, i.e. switching between the VM's VT and terminal emulator windows does not steal the cursor from the latter. It looks as if the VM was holding a lock on the input against freshly launched applications, until the VM's window is minimized.
There is some problem with the Spice display type.
Because it works as expected with VNC display type.
Anyways, I'm not entirely sure if I'm gonna pursue the solution for this particular problem.
Since I don't actually need graphics output, I'm using serial console.
Basically, I need to see if the system has booted and if it hasn't, what was the reason.
Other than that, I'm using ssh to do the job.
