USB 3.0 in virtualbox BUT not in vmware player

I noticed that vmware player doesn't have usb 3.0 support. Is this because I am using a free version of vmware or do I need to upgrade to a vmware workstation or better? Do they have usb 3.0 support?

Virtualbox has usb 3.0 support and it's free.

Thank you for your time

From a look at the VMware website (, it appears that USB3 is in fact available for certain host/guest configurations.

Have you tried contacting VMware or asking on their forum?
