unity doesn't work in a virtual machine
I installed Ubuntu Natty in a vmware virtual machine and while the installation ran smoothly at the first restart the system told me that Unity cannot run (sorry but I don't remember the exact words).
Is there a way to tweak the settings to make it work? |
Could you possibly get us the exact errors and/or segments of the normal log files to help troubleshoot your problem?
|
About the exact error I cannot because it showed up only once for a moment and I forgot the exact words.
As for the logs, which one do you need? |
Check /var/log/messages to see if you have any useful messages, whether they are warnings or errors.

Meanwhile I installed Unity 2d and it works.
Thank you for your help anyway. |
Oh ok, that works too :)
Please mark your thread as solved, and give rep if need be... Thanks! Josh |
I hadn't marked this question as solved, because in the strict sense it is not, I just used something else.
BTW, since you think I should, I will. I hope it won't be misleading. |
Oh I'm sorry, I thought you were alright with unity 2d. Would you prefer unity instead?
|
Unity needs working 3D acceleration. Enable that for your VM and install the VMWare Tools. After that it should work.

Than it may be that the 3D part of VMWare doesn't support a needed feature or simply isn't powerful enough for Unity.
