start NFS service on RHEV Hypervisor

Hi All,

Is it possible to enable NFS share on RHEV Hypervisor 2.2? If so please suggest me how to start the NFS service. To me it is geting failed.

If not possible then can you give me the reason?

Please help me.

Thank you

on rhev-h there is no nfs server. if you need it, use a rhel host

On RHEV-H if I do a grep on rpm I got the following output:
# rpm -qa|grep nfs
nfs-utils-lib-1.0.8-7.6.el5
nfs-utils-1.0.9-44.el5

Can you tell me why this rpms are used?

The main reason why I want nfs on rhev is that I have 489GB free space in the /var/lib/libvirt/images

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/data/images 515G 198M 489G 1% /var/lib/libvirt/images

Can you please suggest me how to use free space to create the Virtaul Machines.

Thanks
Shiva Kumar G

this is used for NFS client functionality

why do you want to start the nfs server on the rhev-h? in general, you are not even supposed to go into the shell of rhev-h

In /data I have 489GB free space. Please help me in configuring it as the the Storage.

not possible. local storage is not currently supported, you need to use a centralised storage box

Thank you very much

NFS on RHEV-H

The fact that you can't run NFS on an RHEV-H machine is not at all clear from the documentation (or it is buried so deep somewhere you have to really look for it).

If all the storage has to be external, it would seem that the RHEV-H system could use a fairly small disk and you would have an RHEL machine somewhere that would have a lot of disk storage. Why didn't they say that in the docs?

I'm afraid that some of the documentation for RHEV leaves something to be desired--have found some omissions and misstatements. Doesn't help when you're a "newbie" to RHEV.

Well, the fact that you need to use centralised storage is mentioned and obvious. RHEV-H everywhere is described as a stripped down build of RHEL, meant to only be used as a hypervisor. Where have you seen only a hypervisor that is also an NFS server?
You could, on the same note, complain that the documentation doesn't mention you can't run Windows minesweeper on RHEV-H :)
