Snapshot & Clone on KVM

Hi all,
i am newbie on KVM and have a simple question:
What are basic differences between snapshot and clone on KVM virtual machines, this is really confusing for me.

cheers :)

snapshot takes a snapshot of a disk image, clone copies a VM into a new domain

Ok,
when both can be used to backups?

snapshot:
1. take snapshot
2. backup underlying image

clone:
clone VM, back the clone up
