"Shared physical device" versus "Virtual network"

Hi,

I can only install Ubuntu on a Cent OS host, using "Shared physical device".

Is that a problem ?

Why is Virtual the default option ?

The "tip" says that virtual is for wireless and dynamic, but the "tip" for Shared says that it is for static connection to wired network, which is okay for me !

Regards

Dunno why you can't use either.

Almost all virtual machines allow one of three ways. One is bridged (shared) and other is NAT (virtual) and the last is local only between virtual machines.

The first two are really up to you. I tend to use NAT(virtual) in my setup.

Bridged is using the same IP config as your host.

NAT has a small software virtual router between your client and host. It works exactly like a real router between two computers for the most part.

shared physical device is a networking through a bridge
virtual network is basically NAT behind libvirts' internal firewall
