P2v xen

Has anyone migrated a physical server to a VM with XEN? I searched google to see if there was a set of commands that can be ran on the XEN server, but came up with no results.

Most of the articles I found were a couple years old and I thought the xen community might have simplified the process.

Thanks for any help.

The Xen community are a bit like the Beta video community... they've lost support in general so there may not be much new happening.

This article is pretty much it with Xen, there is no simpler/automated process that I'm aware of...

Cool

Thanks for the response.

I used this method before but I have roughly 100+ physical servers that will need to be VMs. I have been developing scripts to try to automate the progress. I have a couple hundred windows server that will be migrated to VMware. And with VM converter, that process is much simpler.

There's aways the simple way of using dd over netcat using a physical machine and the target VM booted with liveCD's.

There are also automated solutions - virt-p2v, clonezilla, g4u, as well as the proprietary stuff like acronis and ghost

My client feels he can save more money by having all of the linux hosts in the xen environment.
