No internet with Windows 7 as OS using VM Wrk Station and Ubuntu 9.10
hello, I can not connect to the internet using wired or wireless. I have a dell 1525 it came with Vista, I loaded VMware workstation 6.5 and Ubuntu 9.04 and I connected to the internet with no problem. I upgraded to Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 and I can not connect to the internet no matter what setting I change.
I have it set to NAT. Under menu-VM>Removable Devices I check NAT and Connect. It still does not connect.
Am I missing a setup function somewhere? any suggestion you might have would be a great help.
My host OS is Windows 7 and it can connect to the internet. I have UBUNTU loaded as a VM and also RHEL 4.7 and neither can connect to the internet. I did load the vmware tools tar file and it loaded with no errors.
Another question: what IP addresses have you given to your Windows 7 host OS, and your Ubuntu and RHEL 4.7 VMs, or do they all get automatic IPs through DHCP?
I connect via DHCP. I use a Linksys wireless 5 port router so I can connect wired or wireless. using the windows it works just fine. When I try the VM's it does not work wired or wireless. When I use the bridge selection I get the following error "The network bridge on device VMnet0 is not running. The virtual machine will not be able to communicate with the host or with other machines on your network.Failed to connect virtual device Ethernet0." I have checked multiple settings and I can not seem to get it to connect.

It looks like you need to recreate the VMmon and VMnet modules to match the new Windows 7 that you just upgraded to from your Windows Vista. In my case, every time I change linux kernels, I need to recompile both the VMmon and VMnet kernel modules, so this would seem to make sense. For me to recompile those modules, I need to run /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl. I'm not sure what the corresponding VMWare configuration utility would be called in your case but will guess that it is something along the lines of C:\Program Files\VMWare\vmware-config.exe.
