I am using a Virtualbox machine to make a custom copy of my distro: I will take a snapshot and then burn it to a DVD. I noticed that there seems no obvious way to duplicate my real computer's network connection in the snapshot. The virtual machine has a wired connection, so the snapshot will look for the same wired connection when I run it, as I learned from previous snapshots. As far as I can tell, if I use this method of making a custom copy, I will never be able to make the copy boot with its network connection (the real one) automatically running. Is there any way to avoid this?
First question; does the real hardware have network hardware that is supported by the distro without using non-packaged drivers? For example in debian there are a lot of network cards that will not work without the non-packaged drivers, you have to enable the contrib section of the repos to be able to install them.
If you have the option you could try a generic nic that should be supported out of the box.
Second question; how are you making the dvd?
Third question; have you tried the snapshots in a new vm?
