to update the issue, I found this post:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/76292...wont-configure It seemed like a very similar issue, so I tried to follow this steps from a clean install:
1. sudo systemctl stop apparmor.service
2. sudo apt-get -f install qemu-kvm libvirt-bin virtinst bridge-utils virt-manager
3. sudo systemctl start apparmor.service
This made no difference :/
I then tried to start from scratch with Ubuntu 14.04, but I ended up with the same results.
I then in complete desperation mode tried to do the same with a linux Mint 18. And for some weird reason, things started to look a bit different. I still got an error when trying to add a new VM in virt-manager, but this time it was just some weird error saying something about me not beeing able to add "raw" disk images without the "qemu-img" packege witch didnt seem to exist, and also the disk I was trying to add wasnt a raw file so it seems it was the CDrom it refused to add...
Anyways, in this case it was enough to simply copy over an existing disk image, and importing it via virt-manager so I didnt have to add a CDrom when creating the VM, and then adding it after with "virsh edit". So I atleast got what I wanted now, as I will only be needing the one VM on this computer :P
I cant shake the feeling that this issue is related to my hardware somehow, but I have no idea how to figure out if I am correct or not. But the setup when trying to do this with ubuntu is no different then what is running on my server.. The only differences I can think of is that the server has Ubuntu server 16.04 with Xubuntu desktop while this computer had Ubuntu Desktop 16.04, and the hardware offcourse..
Command: egrep -c '(vmx|svm)' /proc/cpuinfo
Result : 4
Command: kvm-ok
result : INFO: /dev/kvm exists
KVM acceleration can be used
any help in pointing me in the right direction in figuring out what is wrong/what I am doing wrong here is very much appreciated! thanks
