Is this possible?

Hi all,

I have two old servers that I want to setup for a test environment. One is an HP DL360 G4 and the other is an HP DL380 G4.

This is what I would like to do.

Setup Centos with the Xen Hypervisor on the DL360 using Centos with Xen.

then I would like to setup the DL380 as a SAN using iSCSI with OpenFiler or FreeNAS.

Does this seem possible? Or would it be better to just use Citrix Xenserver as the hypervisor and attach it to the DL380 iSCSI SAN.

What does everyone feel is better for this type of setup? OpenFiler or FreeNAS?

Either OpenFiler, Freenas or maybe OpenIndiana should work fine as a iscsi target. I think I did see that ubuntu had iscsi target in it too.

I'd think the server would support xen. Might have to check that. All sorts of ways to run a VM. Might look at proxmox or the vmware bare metal (forgot name) or even boot gpxe/ipxe to a target. Really your setup would let you choose any number of ways.
