Post I am trying to download CentOS 6.0 into VirtualBox please read the issue I am having.

I am trying to download CentOS 6.0 x86_64 into VirtualBox. It recognizes everything wants to boot up, then I get the error message "This kernel requires an x86-x64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU." How can I resolve this issue? Thanks guys this website has answered so many questions I have had.

the x86_64 is for a 64 bit computer
the x86 is for a 32 bit computer

also with using VirtualBox
DO NOT submit bug reports- they will not be read .

the linux kernel development teem has listed VirtualBox as " buggy crap" ( yes that is what they called it )
they recommend that ALL VB users uninstall VB and install VMWare

I have both and the VirtualBox worked fine even when I had both VMWare and VirtualBox.

yes, but you need to run x64 host system which runs Virtualbox to allow you running Virtual machines with x64 systems.
E.g. if you're running Windows 32 bit and VirtualBox, then VB machine can't run x64 system.

I have an x64 based OS. How can I change to the x86-64 CPU of VirtualBox?

Wrong, it is totally possible to run Debian 64 bit in Virtualbox on a host that has Debian 32 bit on it. Already tried this.

When you set up the machine there comes a dialog (isn't it even the first one? Don't have Virtualbox available at this machine.) that asks which OS you want to install. The obvious choice for running a 64 bit OS would be to choose the name of the distro you want to run with 64 bit in it.
If the name of your distro is not in the list choose Linux 2.6 64 bit.
