[SOLVED] How to get usb devices working on VirtualBox?

I'm running VirtualBox 4.3.6 on my laptop (Debian Wheezy).

I have created a guest running KXStudio (based on Ubuntu 12.04). The guest will not recognize usb devices. I have installed the extension pack for VirtualBox and on the guest machine I installed the guest additions. In the guest settings I added USB filter with the first option (empty strings). I can not use the second option for usb filter because it doesn't recognize the usb device attached. I'm trying to connect a usb audio device which works fine on the host OS. I have also tried usb flash drive that works fine on the host but neither are recognized by the guest.
